Qoqand Airport begins accepting large aircraft

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Ferghana region on 11 July to familiarize himself with the lives of the population and regional development.

Uzbekistan is actively developing its transportation infrastructure. In the aviation sector, airports in Samarkand, Termez, Muynak, and Zaamin have been renovated and put into operation. International airports in Tashkent and Urgench are also undergoing repairs, while Tashkent-East Airport is being reconstructed.

In March of this year, Qoqand Airport reopened, where President Mirziyoyev arrived today. The airport, originally built in 1977 for short flights, was later used exclusively by the military. Following modernization efforts, civilian flights are once again being launched here.

The President inspected the constructive work carried out at the airport. A new terminal for 100 passengers has been constructed, the runway has been repaired, and modern air navigation equipment has been installed. The airport is now capable of accommodating Airbus A320-200 and ATR 72-600 aircraft.

President Mirziyoyev noted that the airport must now serve the people effectively and gave instructions to increase the number of flights, improve passenger convenience, and ensure affordability of services.

Wide prospects for utilizing the airport for domestic tourism opportunities and organizing international flights were also highlighted.
