Public servants must report conflict of interest

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Public servants are required to inform their immediate supervisor or a specialized department in case a conflict of interest is identified.

On 5 June, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the law "On Conflict of Interest."

According to this law, an employee of a state institution or another organization is obliged to complete a conflict of interest notification in the prescribed form and submit it to their immediate supervisor or the special unit within one working day from the moment they become aware of the conflict of interest if:

- Close relatives work directly under their supervision (except in cases where they hold positions within the political group of state civil service positions) or have been engaged on the basis of a civil law contract;

- They participate in decision-making that affects their personal interests;

- A close relative works as a responsible official in the inspection sphere at the object of inspection (legal entity), or the object of inspection (legal entity) is connected with them;

- They become aware of any other existing conflict of interest.

The law stipulates that the notification process must be prompt and transparent, aiming to ensure that conflicts of interest are managed effectively and do not impair the integrity and impartiality of public service.
