Public control to ensure protection of consumer rights will be strengthened in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Presidential Resolution "On additional measures aimed at providing the population with high-quality consumer goods" was adopted.

According to the Resolution, it is envisaged to:

- increased liability for acts related to the illegal circulation of goods that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life or health of consumers;

- establishing responsibility for an act related to the illegal circulation of ethyl alcohol, alcohol and tobacco products, based on the level of public danger;

- strengthening of administrative responsibility for violation of sanitary legislation and veterinary, veterinary and sanitary rules;

- strengthening liability for the illegal use of someone else’s trademark, service mark, geographical indication, appellation of origin of goods, a sign confusingly similar to it, or the use of someone else’s trade name;

- establishment of business entities, whose license was canceled or the implementation of activities (actions) was terminated in a notification procedure in connection with a gross violation of the established requirements and conditions, restrictions on engaging in the types of activities specified below.

An appropriate draft law will be developed on these issues.

According to the Resolution, public control will be strengthened in ensuring the protection of consumer rights, suppressing the facts of production and circulation of uncertified, counterfeit, expired and unusable goods. Wherein:

- applications are accepted through the Unified Information System and are considered by the competent authorities in a short time;

- persons who report violations are rewarded.

From 1 July 2023, sparkling and natural wine products are not marked with excise stamps.

From 1 August 2023, the presence of a certificate of registration of trademarks for alcoholic products is a licensing requirement for the production of alcoholic products.

From 1 September 2023, wholesale and retail trade in tobacco products, wholesale trade in beer products are carried out by way of notification.
