Prospects of transport and logistics services development discussed in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan in cooperation with UNDP “Business Forum of Uzbekistan (Phase 2)” Project organized a round table “Current state and prospects of transport and logistics services development in Uzbekistan” to discuss existing opportunities for national carriers and develop suggestions on further development of this sector of economy.

Increase in production and export of goods and services in Uzbekistan promotes increase in demand for transport and logistics services in the country. Experts estimate that the rates of increase in freight transit across the territory of Uzbekistan in 2015-2020 can reach 1 mln. tonnes a year.

The government of Uzbekistan attends to development of transport and logistics sector. Up to 2015 it is planned to carry out projects costing US$8.5 billion, comprising of foreign investments and budget resources. It is scheduled to execute step-by-step construction of new railroads (150 km.), modernization and rehabilitation of existing pathways (1030 km.), electrification of railway lines (715 km.), renovation of fleets, including procurement of locomotives and construction of passenger cars.

“Active development of small business promotes increase in demand for automobile transportation. In this regards, it is important to establish legislative and technological opportunities for extension of international auto transportation. These measures will facilitate increase in transit auto transportation and flow of foreign currency into Uzbekistan”, - said Dilfuza Abulhasan, the expert of Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

About 80 representatives of ministries and agencies, transport associations, as well as private carriers discussed existing problems and prospects of transport and logistics services in Uzbekistan. The Round table presented and discussed potential of inter-modal transport and logistical hub “Navoi”, which is expected to promote significant increase in volumes of freight. As well, the meeting discussed opportunities of transport and logistics centers “Angren” and “Tashkent”.

Entrepreneurs attending the meeting also discovered opportunities of participation in international transport bids, via Unified E-Database – Board of Trade of freight transportation and free transport, daily operating 300,000 proposals. The meeting was followed by lively discussions, where representatives of private sector set forth the problems being faced by them within their everyday activities. Among the stated problems were those attached to licensing, roadside infrastructure, custom base and others.

These kinds of events are constantly organized by CCI and UNDP “Business Forum of Uzbekistan (Phase 2 Project)” on various topical issues. The round tables result in Policy Paper with proposals on further development of given sectors of economy and are submitted for consideration of government bodies.
