Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 27 September, Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Women and Gender Equality M. Kadirkhanova met with representatives of the World Bank delegation led by senior social development specialist and project manager Robert Wrobel.

During the dialogue, it was noted that strategic cooperation has been established between Uzbekistan and the World Bank, and several projects have been implemented in some areas.

At the meeting, an exchange of views also took place on the issues of ensuring gender equality, ending oppression and violence against women, increasing the social and political activity of women, their role in managing public affairs, youth policy and the large-scale reforms currently being implemented in our country, as well as all ongoing changes and updates.

In turn, Senator Malika Kadirkhanova focused on changes and innovations in legislation in connection with the further improvement of the system of reliable protection of the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of women and children.

  “The law is important because, along with the establishment of strict penalties for various types of violence committed today against women and minors, it serves to prevent such negative cases,” noted M. Kadirkhanova.

Robert Wrobel highly appreciated the positive changes implemented in Uzbekistan in recent years, especially the work to protect the rights of women and children, including from various forms of oppression and violence.

During the dialogue, the parties discussed reforms within the framework of the World Bank Project to support the State Budget of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2023–2024.

At the end of the meeting, senior officials of the World Bank expressed their readiness to further improve cooperation, and an agreement was reached on further actions.
