Prosecutors to oversee compliance with legislation on poverty reduction

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Specialized units focused on overseeing compliance with legislation related to poverty reduction and social protection will be established in regional prosecutors’ offices across Uzbekistan.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree titled “On measures to strengthen oversight of compliance and implementation of legislation in the field of poverty reduction and social protection.”

According to the decree, a new position of Deputy General Prosecutor will be introduced, responsible for ensuring compliance with laws related to poverty reduction and social support.

Additionally, a Department for Oversight of Legislation in the Field of Poverty Reduction and Social Protection, comprising seven staff members, will be created within the General Prosecutor’s Office.

Moreover, specialized units will be established in the prosecutors’ offices of Karakalpakstan, regions, and Tashkent. These units will consist of 28 staff members and will focus on monitoring the implementation of laws in this area.

The new Deputy General Prosecutor will be required to visit at least one district or city each week to review the justification for including and excluding families from the register of low-income households, monitor the targeted use of funds allocated to needy families, and ensure that officials are held accountable for violations.

Oversight will also be conducted to ensure compliance with laws and presidential decrees aimed at reducing poverty and improving social protection.
