Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirzayev instructed the Prosecutor General’s Office to establish a control system to identify and prevent the import of equipment from abroad at inflated prices.

During a video conference chaired by the President, dedicated to priority tasks in the areas of investment, exports and international cooperation for 2024, it was noted that despite the significant increase in investment in industry over the past six years, there has not been a sufficient analysis of the impact of each dollar on increasing added value and export of the republic.

Despite the presence of sufficient production capacity for cement production, the proposal to build 22 more cement plants raises questions, the President noted.

The head of Uzbekistan emphasized the need to increase the production of cement with higher added value and introduce technologies aimed at reducing the negative impact on the environment.

It was also noted that over the past three years, equipment worth US$14.2 billion was imported, but this did not lead to a corresponding increase in industrial exports in the regions.

The President noted that either projects are “inflated”, or unnecessary equipment is imported, or there is no specialist who knows how to use these technologies.
