Prosecutor-General’s Office says 3 terrorists killed in Tashkent shootouts
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Prosecutor-General’s Office of Uzbekistan issued a statement on 3 September 2009 on recent shootouts in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

The statement said on 29 August 2009, law enforcement bodies carried out special operation on liquidation of a group of terrorists. The operation was carried out at around18:30 Tashkent time (+5 GMT) near City Hospital No.1 and Kukcha mosque.

The Prosecutor-General’s Office said that the group earlier committed several murders and assassinations to the citizens of Uzbekistan in territory of Uzbekistan.

The statement noted that the fact was not disclosed due to undergoing operative investigation measures.

The measures resulted in establishment of organized criminal group, which committed above-mentioned crimes. The statement added that there is information that bandits underwent training at foreign terrorism centers.

During the special operation, three terrorists were killed, including leader of the group Shavkat Mahmudov, who was in the wanted list.

The Prosecutor-General’s Office opened criminal case and launched investigation. The statement said other members of the terrorism group were detained and they are giving testimony.

The statement said press service of the Prosecutor-General’s Office will provide additional information on results of investigation.
