Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 February, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with proposals to improve the social protection system in Uzbekistan.

The country pays special attention to social protection of the population, and is expanding the list and scope of social services. On 1 June 2023, the head of state signed a decree “On a set of measures to provide high-quality social services and assistance to the population, as well as to establish a system for their effective control.”

According to this document, the National Social Protection Agency was created under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the past period, the agency carried out an analysis of the effectiveness and targeting of the social protection system. Shortcomings were identified in the organization of fair social assistance at the mahalla level, as well as in the proper financing of social services and the provision of assistance in the socialization of people who find themselves in difficult situations.

The presentation discussed proposals aimed at systematically solving these problems. From now on, the “seven” mahallas will identify the causes and factors of social problems in families, assess existing opportunities and focus social services on the priority to get families out of difficult situations.

Assistance from the Sakhovat va Kumak fund will be provided based on an individual assessment of the family’s social status.

The President approved these proposals and issued instructions for the development and effective implementation of relevant documents.

The need for consistent implementation of the requirements of the international convention on the rights of persons with disabilities, ratified by Uzbekistan, was noted, including improving the system of support for persons with disabilities and their integration into society, as well as providing them with high-quality prosthetic and orthopedic products and rehabilitation means.
