Promising issues in the field of environmental reclamation discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 6 September, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jusipbek Kazbekov with the Chairman of the Assembly of the Environmental Rehabilitation Account (ERA) for Central Asia Adrian van der Meer and representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and development (EBRD).

It is worth noting that a grant agreement was signed between the Ministry of Ecology and the EBRD “Reclamation of objects of the Yangiabad and Charkesar-2 uranium deposits”.

For information, reclamation is a set of measures for the ecological and economic restoration of lands and water resources, the fertility of which has significantly decreased as a result of human activity.

The draft agreement envisages the rehabilitation and reclamation of the territory of former uranium mines in the city of Yangiabad, Tashkent region, and the village of Charkesar, Namangan region, in the east of the country.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the planned and ongoing activities related to the reclamation of former uranium deposits.

In particular, the participants were acquainted with the topics of the 8th meeting of the Assembly of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, discussed issues of coordination with other ministries and departments for the implementation of the project, monitoring and maintenance in order to avoid delays in issuing relevant permits, as well as a number of other issues.

For information, on 8-9 September, the 8th meeting of the NER Assembly is scheduled with the participation of representatives of the NER, the European Commission, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the OSCE, UNDP, the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan. Also, in order to familiarize themselves with strategic objects, the heads of diplomatic missions of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Latvia, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Great Britain and the USA will visit the cities of Angren and Yangiabad.
