Projects with the participation of international financial institutions considered

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 November, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting to discuss the progress of projects implemented with the participation of international financial institutions in drinking water supply, agriculture, and healthcare.

In recent years, the number and scale of projects implemented with the support of international financial institutions have been expanding. In particular, US$16 billion has been attracted over the past seven years, and 103 new projects have been launched.

As a result, 9 thousand social facilities and infrastructure were built and repaired, which improved the daily lives of about 5 million people. 38 new large industrial facilities were launched, and 6.5 thousand high-paying jobs were created.

At the same time, new technologies and modern approaches are coming to economic sectors thanks to foreign investment.

However, not all industries achieve high performance. For example, the Ministry of Agriculture is expected to attract US$238 million in funds from international financial institutions this year. This is much less than planned.

In recent years, US$2.4 billion has been attracted to the sector, of which US$1.3 billion has been disbursed. Some projects are behind schedule. For example, the project to create agro-logistic centers in Andijan, Samarkand, and Tashkent regions is delayed.

The Ministry of Health has planned 11 projects worth US$877 million. Most of them are being implemented. However, attracting investments in projects to equip nephrological and urological institutions, constructing a multidisciplinary medical center for adults in Yashnabad district of Tashkent city, and creating a national reference laboratory have not begun.

The Uzsuvtaminot system is implementing 22 projects worth US$2.1 billion. There is a possibility that 8 projects will not be launched on time.

It was noted that, in most cases, this is due to the activities of project groups.

The Head of state gave instructions to increase the responsibility of ministers for implementing projects, to conduct constant discussions of each project with the participation of international experts, and to ensure the effective use of funds.

Responsible persons reported on the measures taken to speed up work, eliminate delays, and ensure high-quality implementation of projects by the end of this year and in 2024.
