Private clinics in Syrdarya region caught underreporting doctors’ dalaries to evade taxes

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Syrdarya region, instances of systematic tax evasion by private medical institutions have been uncovered.

According to Erkinjon Turdimov, the acting khokim of the region, tax authorities conducted an audit, which revealed that private clinics were underreporting the official salaries of their doctors.

The reported salaries ranged from 500,000 to 2.2 million soums. However, in reality, doctors in higher categories earn between 8 and 35 million soums per month. This discrepancy between actual and declared income results in significant budget losses — it is estimated that the region misses out on approximately 12.7 billion soums annually.

Particularly low official salary figures were recorded in certain areas of the region. For example, in Gulistan district, doctors "on paper" earn only 500,000 soums, in Sardobinsky and Saykhunabad districts — 800,000 soums, and in Bayaut district — 900,000 soums.

Erkinjon Turdimov emphasized the need for transparency in the economy and the fight against shadow schemes. He also announced that after the current quarter, a follow-up inspection of medical institutions in the region will be conducted.
