Prime Minister of Uzbekistan visits hydropower cascade construction site on Naryn river

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov visited the construction site of a hydropower cascade on the Naryn River in Namangan region.

According to the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan from 30 March 2023 "On Measures for Further Reforming the Hydropower Complex," the investment projects include the construction of a 228 MW hydropower cascade on the Naryn River.

Currently, active construction works are underway.

The Naryn cascade will consist of 6 hydropower stations, each with a capacity of 38 MW, achieved through the installation of 4 hydro units, each with a capacity of 9.5 MW. This project will annually produce 1.02 billion kWh of environmentally friendly electricity.

It is expected to save 310 million cubic meters of gas annually and provide electricity to 430 thousand households.

Abdugani Sanginov, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekhydroenergo, briefed the Prime Minister on the progress of construction.

This hydropower cascade will be Uzbekistan's first "National Hydropower Plant," as the project is fully funded by Uzbekhydroenergo with the involvement of local contractors and designers. All necessary equipment is also being produced locally. The project cost is US$434 million.

Abdulla Aripov interacted with students and youth participating in the project under the cooperation between Uzbekhydroenergo and the Namangan Engineering and Construction Institute.

It is noteworthy that in March 2024, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev initiated the construction of this facility.
