Presidents of Uzbekistan and Russia confirm their commitment to further expansion of multifaceted cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Russia Vladimir Putin held negotiations in a narrow format at the Kuksaroy residence.

The head of Uzbekistan warmly welcomed the guest, emphasizing that the President of the Russian Federation is making one of his first foreign trips after his re-election to Uzbekistan.

The leaders of the two countries discussed issues of further development and deepening of the comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance between Uzbekistan and Russia.

It was noted that in preparation for the visit, meetings of parliamentarians, political consultations, the Innoprom exhibition, conferences of rectors of leading engineering and technical universities and heads of reputable medical institutions of the two countries were successfully held. The Russian Art Week events continue in Tashkent.

The heads of the two countries positively assessed the dynamics of trade and economic cooperation. It was noted that Uzbekistan and the Republic of Sakha are increasing the volume of trade turnover. Russian investments in Uzbekistan are growing, and industrial cooperation is also developing. The portfolio of joint projects amounts to US$45 billion.

The Presidents of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation agreed to launch a Joint Investment Platform to support projects of leading enterprises.

The presidents emphasized the importance of further development of interregional cooperation.

Today the first meeting of the Council of Regions of Uzbekistan and Russia will take place, chaired by the heads of the two states.

The leaders discussed in detail the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of energy, including nuclear, agriculture, innovation, migration, security and others.

Diverse cultural and humanitarian cooperation was highly appreciated. During the visit, a Cultural Cooperation Program will be adopted.

Special attention was paid to cooperation in the field of education and training of engineering personnel. Agreements were reached on opening branches of the Bauman Moscow Technical University and the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade in Uzbekistan.

The heads of state also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
