Presidents of Uzbekistan and Korea hold negotiations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and his Korean counterpart Lee Myung-bak held a summit on 11 February, the press release of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said. It added that the summit was held in friendly atmosphere.

During the summit, the sides exchanged opinion on development and strengthening of bilateral, regional and international cooperation of mutual interest, the release said.

Heads of two states expressed their satisfaction with gradual development of bilateral relations in politics, economy, and cultural-humanitarian spheres and affirmed their intention to cooperate to fill strategic partnership with real content.

The sides evaluated expansion of mutual beneficial cooperation in oil and gas, petrochemical, construction ICT, agriculture, ecology, textile sectors and agreed to support activity of businesses.

Presidents said cooperation in energy and resource sectors is expanding and agreement on exploration works at Western-Ferghana and Chinabad blocks serves as evidence.

Leaders of Uzbekistan and South Korea welcomed a project on construction of gas-chemical complex at Surgil field. The sides inked Basic Investment Agreement on 11 February and the project entered into active realization phase. The sides also agreed to boost cooperation in “green development”, including projects on LNG production.

Presidents of Uzbekistan and Korea agreed that Navoi free industrial and economic zone is perspective direction on cooperation and continue to cooperation to successfully realize it.

Heads of the states Navoi international logistic center, managed by Korean Air, will create favorable conditions for supply of goods to international markets through multi-modal logistics network.

Korean President Lee Myung-bak underlined that the Government of Korea will increase support to healthcare, education, renewable energy, industry and infrastructure spheres within official development aid. He said Uzbekistan was selected as key state within programme on knowledge exchange in 2010.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov expressed his gratitude to Korea for assistance in social-economic development of Uzbekistan.

Presidents agreed that they will promote further strengthening of exchange and cooperation in culture, sport and tourism.

The sides welcomed signature of protocol of intention on creation of Seoul Park in Tashkent city and the project will deepen mutual understanding and strengthen friendship between nations.

Leaders vowed that the sides have common view on full and verified denuclearization of North Korea is important term for peace and stability in northern-eastern Asia. Uzbek President support position of South Korea to regulate North Korean nuclear problem through negotiations.

Uzbek and Korean leaders expressed hope that the situation in Afghanistan will stabilize soon and agreed to cooperation within international projects directed to rehabilitate Afghanistan. They also agreed to cooperation within international organizations, including UN.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov invited his Korean counterpart Lee Myung-bak to visit Uzbekistan in convenient time. The Korea side accepted invitation and the sides agreed to determine visit time through diplomatic channels.
