Uzbekistan 28/05/2007 President’s new book outlines priority directions of development

The President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov’s book entitled "Progress of the country and raising our people’s living standards – the end goal of all democratic changes and economic reforms" has come out.

The book includes the speeches of the Uzbek leader delivered at the 2006 meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers devoted to the results of socio-economic development of the country and the main priorities for the intensification of economic reforms in 2007, a number of decrees and resolutions concerning the urgent problems, and the State "The Year of Social Protection" Programme.

The book provides a deep and all-round analysis of the important results achieved in different spheres in 2000-2006, and corresponding conclusions, UzA reports.

It also outlines the specific tasks on the achievement of the targets set for the year 2007, the short-term socio-economic development strategy.

Speaking of the achievement of these high tasks, the President particularly draws attention to the following issues.

First of all, he wrote, we should clearly understand the tasks we are facing, understand their essence. In this regard, the determining importance should be given to the fact that everyone, starting from the head of state and including every citizen, we all should think of the achievement of these tasks as of our main duty. There should be no external observers, we all should become active participants.

Secondly, welfare and free civil society can only come if every person, living on this land, fully understands all the importance of the task and feels the responsibility.

Thirdly, to create the living conditions that would not fall behind any developed country of the world, undoubtedly, we should be guided by such noble qualities as the unity of the nation, kindness and mutual understanding, tolerance and kind-heartedness, decisiveness and courage.

Fourthly, all of our achievements that followed the independence, regardless of what sphere they relate to, be it economy, politics, culture, belong to us, and nobody has the right to take them away from us, but at the same time, we should not lie on our laurels and be satisfied with what has been done.

Fifthly, we should protect our national values, rich culture of the nation of Uzbekistan, invaluable, heritage of our great ancestors, faith and believes, which empower us and give us energy, and in practice through our actions we should strengthen our confidence in bright future.

In other words, deeply founded conceptual approach taken in the analysis of the issues, and solutions to them, contained in the book will become a programme for the implementation of the priority directions and reforms aimed at the development of the country and improvement of the nation’s welfare.

Undoubtedly, in this programme every citizen, the society as a whole will find answers to many questions concerning their interests and aspirations in life.
