President: WTO membership will be a powerful stimulus for enhancing competitiveness

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan has stated that joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) will help eliminate overpayments and remove restrictions on international cargo transit.

In a meeting with entrepreneurs, Mirziyoyev emphasized that WTO membership will serve as a powerful impetus for improving the country’s competitiveness. He highlighted the need to adopt international standards to enhance product and service quality and secure a strong position in global markets.

As an example, Mirziyoyev pointed out that without proper control over pesticide use, the country would not be able to increase agricultural exports to $10 billion by 2030, and the products would struggle to find markets. Consequently, significant changes in this sector are planned for Uzbekistan in 2024.

These changes are expected to streamline the functions of organizations involved in quarantine, veterinary, sanitary control, and standardization, as well as eliminate redundant inspections for entrepreneurs.
