President says small businesses receive tax preferences for US$500m
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Total sum of tax preferences, provided to small businesses and private entrepreneurship in Uzbekistan in 2011, exceeded US$500 million, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said at the opening of the international conference “On the role and importance of small business and private entrepreneurship in the implementation of socio-economic policy in Uzbekistan”.

The Uzbek leader said that the government always pays attention to taxation issues. In 2005-2012, the single tax payment rate for microfirms and small enterprises was decreased over 2.5 times from 13% to 5% from total turnover, while fine and applied art objects and family business and small businesses are not taxed or taxed by minimal rate.

He said that during global financial-economic crisis, Uzbekistan did not raise taxes as many states, but decreased single tax payments for small businesses. He said more, consumer goods producers were exempted from payment of tax for 5-7 years and fully exempted enterprises from customs duties, which conduct modernization.

Uzbek President said that about 35% of the sum, the enterprises directed to expansion and modernization of production capacities and 25% were used to stimulate employees.

He said that the banking system of Uzbekistan issued loans for over US$2.5 billion to develop and stimulate small businesses, which is 26% of total volume of issued loans.

Islam Karimov said that Uzbekistan highly rates assistance of international financial institutions such as the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, International Finance Corporation, Islamic Development Bank, UN structures, Arab Coordination Group, the Governments of South Korea, China, Germany and others, which issued over US$1.5 billion of loans to finance small and private businesses in the Central Asian nation.

Islam Karimov expressed gratitude on behalf of the Uzbek businesses and on its own behalf to heads of the UN agencies, banking structure, foreign embassies for their contribution to development of businesses in Uzbekistan.
