Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 27 June, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the BYD Uzbekistan Factory in Jizzakh region, which was launched at the beginning of the year during his visit to China.
This plant is a joint venture worth US$160 million and has a production capacity of 50 thousand electric vehicles per year.
The plant has modern equipment and robotic systems from China, which automates production processes.
The President inspected the plant’s infrastructure, including railway tracks, a components warehouse and a logistics center. A laboratory was also set up for high-precision testing of the geometric dimensions of electric vehicles.
The plant currently produces Chazor and Song Plus Champion models.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev left his signature on the first electric car that rolled off the assembly line.
Plans for further expansion of production are also presented: the second stage of the project is planned for US$300 million to increase production to 200 thousand electric vehicles per year, and the third stage for US$500 million - up to 500 thousand electric vehicles per year.
Particular attention was paid to training and development of personnel through the creation of an RnD center and support for scientific and engineering research.
It is planned to gradually localize the production of key components, which will reduce production costs and enter the regional markets.
Currently, the plant employs 1.2 thousand people, and with the implementation of all stages of the project, the number of jobs will reach 10 thousand.
