Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Upon arriving in Samarkand as part of his traditional visit, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev first visited the Imam Bukhari Mausoleum. During the ceremony, Quranic surahs were recited and du’a prayers offered.

The head of state reviewed the ongoing construction and improvement work at the complex. The renowned hadith scholar Imam Bukhari is deeply revered across the Islamic world, and thousands of pilgrims visit his mausoleum each year. To create more comfortable conditions for worshippers, a large-scale architectural ensemble is being developed in Samarkand.

The sacred site now spans 44 hectares and includes the mausoleum, a mosque accommodating 10,000 people, and an administrative building. Four 75-meter minarets lend the ensemble a particularly majestic appearance. Finishing works are currently underway, including the application of calligraphic inscriptions of hadiths from Sahih al-Bukhari on the portals and walls of the iwan structures.

President Mirziyoyev emphasized that the new complex should serve not only as a place of worship but also as a center of science, education, and spiritual development. “The great works, knowledge, and personal qualities of Imam Bukhari are a noble example for everyone, especially for the youth,” he said.

The complex will also house an innovative museum dedicated to the life and scholarly heritage of Imam Bukhari, highlighting his contributions to Islamic science and education. Exhibits will feature information on the 25 prophets mentioned in the Quran, the genealogy of Prophet Muhammad, his life in Mecca and Medina, and details on the collection and recording of hadiths.

Adjacent to the complex, construction of a hotel and other facilities for pilgrims is nearing completion. The President instructed that work be completed to a high standard, visitor amenities be expanded, and green areas around the complex be increased.
