President of Uzbekistan signs law “On Electric Power Industry”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed the Law "On Electric Power Industry."

The law regulates relations in the field of electric power.

State regulation in this area will be carried out by:

- The Cabinet of Ministers;
- The Ministry of Energy;
- The Agency for the Development and Regulation of the Energy Market;
- The Inspectorate for Control over the Use of Electric Energy, Petroleum Products, and Gas;
- Local executive authorities.

The Cabinet of Ministers will ensure the implementation of a unified state policy in the field of electric power.

The Ministry of Energy is designated as the specially authorized state body in this field.

Participants in the electricity market will include:

- The electricity market operator;
- The producer;
- The electricity storage system operator;
- The transmission system operator;
- The central buyer;
- The trader;
- The distribution system operator;
- The supplier;
- The consumer.

The methodology for setting tariffs and payments, as well as the regulated tariffs and payments, will be developed and approved by the Energy Market Regulator. The adopted tariffs and payments must be announced at least 15 days before they come into effect. Tariffs and payments will not have retroactive effect.

The law comes into force 3 months after its official publication.
