President of Uzbekistan proposed strengthening transport and communication interconnectivity within the framework of the ECO

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed  to the countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) to strengthen transport and communication interconnectivity.

“Most member states do not have direct access to the sea. At the same time, we must take full advantage of the potential of transcontinental transport corridors connecting with large markets in the Asia-Pacific region, regions of South Asia, the Middle East and Europe and passing through our territories,” said President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his speech at the ECO Summit in Tashkent.

“The launch of multimodal corridors along the route China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan and the Trans-Afghan Road in the future meets the interests of all member states,” noted the head of Uzbekistan.

“I urge other members to join the document adopted on 2 November in Tashkent at a meeting of transport ministers on the development of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey transport corridor, optimization of mutual tariffs and fees,” he said.

“It should be noted that Uzbekistan has carried out digitalization of cargo transportation data with Azerbaijan and Turkey, similar projects are being implemented with other states,” added the head of Uzbekistan.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed creating a Digital Transport and Customs Office of the Organization in Tashkent for the purpose of widespread implementation and effective coordination of such modern systems.
