Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 9 July, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held a meeting with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert Houngbo, who was on a working visit to the country.

During the meeting, the prospects for further expanding cooperation with this important UN body were discussed.

Gilbert Houngbo expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm reception and praised Uzbekistan’s achievements in protecting labor rights, creating new jobs, and implementing international standards.

He emphasized that his visit supports the successful reforms being carried out under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan. The ILO views Uzbekistan’s experience in this area as a successful model for international study and application, which is confirmed by the country’s election to the organization’s Administrative Council in June of this year.

In recent years, cooperation between Uzbekistan and the ILO has significantly strengthened. With the support of the ILO, more than 40 regulatory acts in the labor field have been adopted in Uzbekistan, and 22 international conventions have been ratified.

A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement to develop and adopt a new Country Program for the period from 2026 to 2030, aimed at strengthening social justice and supporting the principles of fair labor.
