President of Uzbekistan meets with leaders of Arab Parliaments

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 7 April, on the sidelines of the 150th Jubilee Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the leaders of Arab parliaments.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Arab Parliament, Muhammad bin Ahmad Al-Yamahi, Speaker of the Bahrain Council of Representatives Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, Chairman of the Egyptian House of Representatives Hanafi Ali Al-Gebali, Head of the Shura Council of Oman Khalid bin Hilal Al-Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council of Qatar Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, and Chairman of the Federal National Council of the UAE Ali Rashid Al-Nuaimi.

At the beginning of the meeting, the heads of the delegations conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the leaders of their respective countries to the President of Uzbekistan.

The sides discussed in detail issues related to strengthening multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Arab countries, including the activation of inter-parliamentary ties.

It was noted with satisfaction that in recent years, the partnership between Uzbekistan and the Arab world has been developing dynamically. Historical high-level visits have taken place, and stable contacts and exchanges have been established.

Relations with the United Arab Emirates and Qatar have reached the level of strategic partnerships, while cooperation with Saudi Arabia and Egypt is strengthening. Ties with Bahrain and Oman are actively developing.

The portfolio of joint investment projects has exceeded US$50 billion. Major initiatives in the fields of green energy, chemical industry, agriculture, information technology, transport, logistics, infrastructure development, and tourism are being implemented. Nearly 500 joint ventures have been created, and the number of direct flights has exceeded 150 per week.

Regional issues were also discussed, including efforts for a peaceful resolution of the situation in the Middle East.

The sides also addressed upcoming high-level events, including the second summit of the "Central Asia – Gulf Cooperation Council Dialogue," scheduled to take place in Samarkand in May of this year.
