President of Uzbekistan familiarizes himself with major transport infrastructure projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 3 February, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the implementation of major projects in the field of transport infrastructure.

With growing demand from the population and economy, the country’s transport network is developing dynamically. In accordance with the presidential decree of 10 October 2023, reforms in the road sector have significantly expanded the scale of construction, repair, and operation of highways.

One of the key projects is the creation of modern highways. Specifically, with the support of the World Bank, an alternative route project for the “Tashkent – Andijan” highway has been developed.

The introduction of this 314-kilometer high-speed road will reduce travel time between the two cities from five to three hours, increase the country’s GDP by 2.6%, and reduce road accidents by 40%.

Recently, an international tender for this project was announced, attracting significant interest from leading foreign companies.

During the meeting, proposals for the project were reviewed, and instructions were given to the Ministry of Transport regarding the development of alternative highways in other busy routes, enhancing the convenience and safety of roads, and organizing additional paid services.

Additionally, the President was presented with information about the dry port project in Navoi region, which is being developed in cooperation with the Emirati company AD Ports Group.
