Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in the city of Shusha to participate in the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev welcomed the head of Uzbekistan.
Together with other heads of delegations from OTS member countries, under the guidance of the Azerbaijani president, they reviewed the reconstruction work being carried out in Shusha.
Shusha is considered the main jewel of Karabakh, the center of Caucasian art, and the cradle of Azerbaijani music. This city is the birthplace of many prominent figures in science, culture, and art. Since 2021, Shusha has held the status of the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, and in 2023 it was declared the cultural capital of the Turkic world.
This year, the cities of Khiva and Shusha became sister cities.
The guests visited a residential complex that was built in Shusha for the first time in the last thirty-two years. The area of this complex, consisting of 23 buildings, is about 8 hectares.
The leaders then familiarized themselves with the project and the construction progress of a new mosque, whose foundation was laid in 2021.
The President of Azerbaijan briefed the guests on the work carried out and the future plans for the development of the city’s infrastructure.
The presidents also visited the Govhar Agha Mosque, the first mosque built in Shusha in the 19th century. The guests highly appreciated the results of the restoration of this historic site.
The working visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan continues, and the main events of the OTS summit will take place tomorrow, on 6 July.
