Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 5 September, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Qu Dongyu.

The FAO Chief arrived in Tashkent to participate in the International Forum on Food Security and Sustainable Development Goals for Landlocked Countries.

Qu Dongyu expressed gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for supporting the forum, which includes delegations from over 30 countries.

The meeting focused on prospects for strengthening strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and FAO to address current challenges in the food sector.

Particular attention was given to the successes in bilateral cooperation, including the implementation of 34 projects, 7 of which are new, covering areas such as agriculture, school nutrition, veterinary medicine, and agrochemistry. The importance of preparing a new five-year partnership program was also highlighted.

Additionally, discussions included projects related to the digitalization of the agricultural sector, implementation of innovations, improvement of soil fertility, modernization of irrigation systems, and the creation of modern clusters and logistics centers. During the meeting, there was an exchange of views on global and regional issues concerning food security.
