On 26 February, Islam Karimov held talks with President of South Korea Lee Myung-bak. The two leaders discussed the current state and perspectives of bilateral relations, as well as regional and international issues.
Lee Myung-bak confirmed his country’s interest in implementing new projects with Uzbekistan in fields like education, car building, textile, IT, infrastructure, construction, oil and gas.
The commodity turnover between the two states comprised US$850 million last year. In 2008, the figure is expected to reach US$1 billion.
While in Seoul, Islam Karimov visited the GMDAT plant in Inchon, where he met the company president Michael Grimaldi. The sides discussed implementation of joint projects and development of new ones.
As reported earlier, on 25 February President Karimov held negotiations with heads of Korean Air and Korea Gas Corporation.
