Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 July, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili, who is in Uzbekistan on a working visit.

Issues of further promoting full-scale cooperation with the leading industry organization of the UN system on developing modern tourism infrastructure and promoting tourist destinations in Uzbekistan were discussed.

The UNWTO Secretary-General, on behalf of the structures and institutions of the United Nations system, warmly congratulated the President of Uzbekistan on his convincing victory in the Presidential Election, sincerely wishing well-being and great success.

The main attention was paid to preparing and holding the main international event of the tourism industry this year – the 25th anniversary session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand in October.

The importance of enhancing practical interaction in attracting leading investors – well-known foreign companies and brands to implement projects to create a modern and comfortable tourism infrastructure in Uzbekistan was noted.

Joint activities will be carried out in promoting the international image, in education, and in training highly qualified specialists, including the creation of the International Academy and the UNWTO Thematic Office in Uzbekistan.
