Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a law on ratification of the Protocol on amendments to the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the conditions of mutual travel of citizens.

The purpose of this law is to create a legal framework for the further development of friendly relations between the two states, as well as to regulate the travel and stay of citizens of one country on the territory of the other.

The protocol stipulates a simplified procedure for the stay of citizens of two countries in each other’s territories without the need to register with the competent authorities within 30 calendar days from the moment of crossing the state border.

Thus, both states will increase the period of stay of their citizens on each other’s territory from five to 30 calendar days without the need for temporary registration.

Citizens of one country can enter, leave, transit and move through the territory of another country without obtaining a temporary residence permit if their stay does not exceed 30 calendar days from the moment of crossing the border and in total does not exceed 90 calendar days during each period of 180 calendar days .

If the period of stay exceeds 30 calendar days, the citizen is required to obtain a temporary residence permit from the competent authorities of the host state.

The protocol to the agreement was signed on 22 December 2022 in the city of Tashkent as part of the visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan.

It should be noted that the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved a protocol on amending the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the conditions of mutual trips of citizens on 26 April 2023.
