The Bulgarian leader familiarized himself with the historical monuments and other sights of the ancient city, including the Amir Temur mausoleum, the Registan complex and the Ulugbek observatory. Georgi Parvanov also visited the Siab market in Samarkand.

The President of Bulgaria highly evaluated the reconstruction and restoration works held in the city, as well as preservation of the national cultural heritage.

During the visit, the mayors of Samarkand and Plovdiv signed an agreement on establishment of partnership relations between the two cities.
