President approves measures to strengthen social support for pensioners

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on additional measures to strengthen social support for pensioners and improve the efficiency of the pension system on 12 December.

According to the decree, from 1 January 2019, all working pensioners in Uzbekistan will receive their pensions in full. Working pensioners currently receive only 50% of their pensions, the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel reported.

It is expected that from 1 January, the maximum amount of pension payments will increase to 10 minimum wages and reach 2.227 million soums. In turn, this will lead to an increase of pensions by an average of 65,000-260,000 soums.

These changes will lead to additional expenditures of the extra-budgetary Pension Fund for 501.6 billion soums per year, and the total amount will be 1.57 trillion soums.

According to the government, there are 3.087 million pensioners in Uzbekistan. In total, there are 118,730 working pensioners, of which 35,000 operate in the real sector of the economy, 22,000 in education and 20,000 in health care.
