President appoints new head of Uzbekenergo
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov replaced chairperson of the board of Uzbekenergo state joint stock company (Uzbek Energy).

Uzbek President Islam Karimov fired the chairperson of the board of Uzbekenergo Batir Teshabaev.

President appointed Iskandar Basitov to the post of the chairperson of the board of Uzbekenergo. Prior to appointment, he worked as the first deputy chairperson of the board of Uzbekenergo.

Uzbekenergo is a state entity, which regulates electricity and coal industry of Uzbekistan. It was formed as state joint stock company in 2001.

The company includes 53 enterprises and organizations, including 39 open joint-stock companies, 11 unitary enterprises, 2 societies with limited liability and company branch-“Energosotish”.

Installed capacities of power stations of Uzbekistan exceeds 12.4 million kilowatt, which makes up about 50% of generating capacities of United Energy System of Central Asia.

Uzbekenergo is main producer and supplier of electricity to consumers in Uzbekistan. Share of departmental power stations in total generating capacities makes up 3.6% (454.5 megawatt).

The company produced 51.4 billion K.W.H of electricity and 9 million Gcal of heating energy to consumers in 2011.

Thermal power stations are main energy generators of Uzbekistan, which produce 90% of electricity in Uzbekistan. They produce electricity mainly from gas (94% of total volume), mazut (2%) and coal (4%). In near future, share of coal in fuel balance will reach 11-12%.

Hydro power stations with installed capacity of 1.1 million kilowatts and united to cascade of hydropower stations and work on water flow. The company has electricity supply network with extension of over 242,000 km.
