Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Preparations are underway in Khiva for the upcoming XII session of the ministers of tourism of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which will be held from 31 May to 2 June.

The Deputy Secretary General of the OIC, Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, and the advance team of the Tourism Committee are already working in the ancient city.

Among the guests of the forum are OIC Secretary General Hussein Brahim Taha, persons responsible for the development of tourism from Senegal, Somalia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Oman, UAE and other countries, as well as representatives of a number of OIC structures.

In 2022 Khiva was chosen as a tourist city of the Islamic world for 2024; in March, Deputy Secretary General of the OIC Ahmad Kavesa Sengendo presented the khokim of Khiva with a certificate in connection with the assignment of this status to the city.
