Prague hosts 10th meeting of the Uzbek-Czech Intergovernmental Commission

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A series of events aimed at strengthening Uzbek-Czech trade, economic, and investment cooperation took place in Prague.

The key event was the 10th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation. The agenda included bilateral meetings with Czech business representatives, discussions with the leadership of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade, and a roundtable featuring major Czech companies.

The delegations were led by Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade, Akram Aliyev, and the Czech Republic’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Martin Frelich. The commission reviewed reports from relevant ministries, agencies, and industry associations on the implementation of previously agreed initiatives. Particular attention was given to analyzing the progress of ongoing projects, accelerating their execution, and defining responsible parties and specific deadlines.

Discussions focused on expanding trade volumes, attracting investments, and enhancing industrial cooperation. Currently, 44 companies with Czech capital operate in Uzbekistan, and bilateral trade has increased sixfold over the past seven years, reaching US$434.6 million by the end of 2024.

The roundtable gathered over 20 major Czech companies, including S-I Industries, Kompelson, Diamo, Doctor Muller Pharma, Era, Pragoimex, SAZ, Skoda Transportation, Zimatechnik, and ZVVZ Engineering. Uzbek representatives presented investment opportunities and key projects in industries such as transport, pharmaceuticals, electrical engineering, food and agriculture, leather production, tourism, and education.

During G2B negotiations, entrepreneurs discussed details of ongoing and potential joint projects, as well as prospective trade agreements. The visit concluded with several agreements, including the signing of the Intergovernmental Commission’s protocol and a cooperation agreement between Uzbekistan’s Agency for Technical Regulation and the Czech Office for Standardization, Metrology, and Testing.
