Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As of 1 July 2024, the permanent population of Uzbekistan reached 37.13 million people, according to the Uzbekistan Statistics Agency.

Of these, 18.7 million are men, and 18.43 million are women. The urban population is 18.94 million people, while the rural population is 18.19 million people.

The average age of men is 28.5 years, and the average age of women is 30 years. Youth of working age make up 32% of the population, those of working age make up 56.4%, and those older than working age make up 11.6%.

The number of children under 4 years old is 4.37 million, those aged 5 to 13 is 6.12 million, youth aged 14 to 30 is 9.64 million, people aged 31 to 59 is 13.2 million, and those over 60 years old is 3.47 million.

The population density of Uzbekistan as of 1 July 2024 is 82.7 people per square kilometer, which is 1.7 people more compared to the same period in 2023.

The highest population density is observed in Tashkent (6,864.4 people/sq. km), Andijan region (796.4 people/sq. km), and Fergana region (606.3 people/sq. km). The lowest density is in Navoi region (9.8 people/sq. km) and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (12.1 people/sq. km).

The largest population is recorded in the Samarkand region – 4.25 million people, in the Fergana region – 4.1 million people, and in the Kashkadarya region – 3.59 million people.

The smallest population is in Syrdarya region – 922.1 thousand people, Navoi region – 1,084.9 thousand people, and Jizzakh region – 1,521.9 thousand people.

The number of live births in the first half of 2024 was 419.9 thousand, including 218.1 thousand boys and 201.8 thousand girls.

In urban areas, 212.3 thousand children were born, while in rural areas – 207.6 thousand. Among the newborns: 97.7% were firstborns, 2.2% were second children, and 0.1% were third or more children.

Father’s age: under 25 years – 9.9%, 25-39 years – 82.9%, 40 years and older – 7.2%. Mother’s age: under 25 years – 37.4%, 25-39 years – 61.3%, 40 years and older – 1.3%.

The highest birth rate was noted in Surkhandarya region (26.2 per mille), Jizzakh region (24.7 per mille), and Kashkadarya region (24.7 per mille).

The lowest birth rate was in Khorezm region (18.8 per mille), the Republic of Karakalpakstan (19.0 per mille), and Bukhara region (19.4 per mille).

The total number of deaths from January to June 2024 was 81.4 thousand people, of which 44.4 thousand were men and 37.0 thousand were women. In cities, 46.0 thousand people died, while in rural areas – 35.4 thousand people.

The main causes of death were cardiovascular diseases (58.4%), neoplasms (9.4%), respiratory diseases (6.6%), accidents, poisonings, and injuries (5.3%), digestive diseases (4.1%), infectious and parasitic diseases (1.1%), and other causes (15.1%).

The highest mortality rate was recorded in Tashkent (5.2 per mille) and Tashkent region (5.0 per mille), and the lowest – in Jizzakh region (3.9 per mille).

The largest share of mortality was noted in the Samarkand region (10.9%), Fergana region (10.4%), Tashkent (9.7%), Andijan region (9.3%), and Kashkadarya region (9.1%).

The smallest share was in Syrdarya region (2.5%), Navoi region (2.8%), Jizzakh region (3.6%), Khorezm region (5.2%), and Bukhara region (5.4%).
