Uzbekistan 25/07/2007 Uzbeks, Kyrgyzs, Tajiks, Russians top illegal migrants list - Kazakh police

During seven large-scale operations held in recent six months, officers of the migration police in Almaty uncovered almost 15,000 cases where foreigners violated regulations on arrival in Kazakhstan, a Regnum news agency correspondent learnt this at the press service of the Almaty interior department on 23 July.

The department said in recent six months, 14,597 people were brought to administrative account for the violation of the regulations on arrival of foreign citizens. In the same period of 2006, the figure was 7,478. Of them, 1,656 people are citizens from 46 countries beyond the CIS. In particular, it was established that they were citizens of South Korea, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Nepal, Syria, Germany, the UK, Mongolia, Israel and Palestine. Of them, 12,941 are citizens of the CIS.

The majority of illegal migrants arrive in Almaty from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Russia. A total of 1,256 foreign citizens were deported from the country in the first six months of this year. Furthermore, 944 officials and private persons were brought to administrative account for ignoring the requirements of the law regulating the arrival of foreigners in Kazakhstan.
