Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A shortage and increase in the price of sugar is not expected in Uzbekistan due to a temporary ban on its export from Russia. This was stated by the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.
The department emphasized that no shortage of sugar is expected in the domestic market of Uzbekistan, since the main supplies of raw materials for its production are carried out from Brazil and India, which accounts for 98% of the total volume. Last year, the volume of these supplies reached 762 thousand tons.
Uzbekistan has sufficient domestic capacity for sugar production. Angren Shakar and Khorazm Shakar produce more than 900,000 tons of sugar per year. At the same time, the country’s domestic needs for sugar amount to 650,000–700,00 tons.
The agency also noted that information about a possible shortage and rise in price of sugar often appears before the start of the season and is disseminated by interested parties.
The Ministry of Agriculture called on citizens to be vigilant and not to fall for such rumors.
It should be noted that Russian media reported plans to introduce a temporary ban on sugar exports until 31 August 2024, which led to rumors of a possible shortage.
