Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 2 April at 13:00 local time (15:00 in Tashkent), 29 people died as a result of a fire that broke out in a 16-storey residential building in the Sisli district of Istanbul.
According to the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul, the fire occurred in a nightclub located on the ground floor of the building. The club was closed due to the month of Ramadan and was undergoing renovation work.
The prosecutor’s office opened a criminal case, and 5 people have been arrested so far. All the dead were workers renovating the nightclub. Work is underway to determine their identity.
The Consulate General of Uzbekistan notes that there are no citizens of Uzbekistan among the victims and detainees.
