Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- BYD has appealed to the government of Uzbekistan with a request to limit the illegal import of electric vehicles into the country.
This is stated in the presidential resolution from 18 March 2024 on the approval of an investment agreement on organizing the production of electric and hybrid vehicles and their components in Uzbekistan.
The document notes that BYD has asked the government to restrict the illegal import of electric vehicles that do not meet local climatic and road conditions, and do not have an official guarantee.
The President instructed several departments to submit proposals to the Cabinet of Ministers by 1 July 2024 to regulate the import of electric and hybrid cars under the BYD brand in accordance with the legislation and principles of the World Trade Organization.
In January 2023, Uzavtosanoat and the Chinese BYD Auto created a joint venture, BYD Uzbekistan Factory, to produce electric vehicles.
The President also supported BYD’s plans to begin assembling electric buses in Uzbekistan and instructed to accelerate projects in the electric vehicle industry.
