Elections to Senate of Oliy Majlis to be held on 18-23 January
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) --
Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan held a meeting to discuss issues related to organization and holding of elections to Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.
According to the decision of the commission, the elections of the members of Senate will be held on 18-23 January 2010 through secret ballot in corresponding joint sessions of Jokary Kenes of Karakalpakstan, kengashs (councils) of regions, districts and cities. The Senate members are elected from members of the councils.
In line with the legislation, members of the Senate are elected in equal number from Karakalpakstan, regions and Tashkent city. Six members of the Senate elected from each region.
