The holders of the sign “For the Protection of Human Rights” were awarded

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 4 December, at the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, a group of citizens and representatives of national and international organizations were awarded the badge “For the Protection of Human Rights.”

The award ceremony took place within the framework of the “Decade of Human Rights”, announced in connection with the 31st anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Day of the Declaration of Human Rights, celebrated on 10 December.

As Akmal Saidov, director of the National Center for Human Rights, emphasized when opening the ceremony, “in the new edition of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the number of norms related to human rights has been increased more than three times. Based on these constitutional norms and the requirements of international human rights treaties, to which Uzbekistan is a party, special attention is paid to ensuring human rights, freedoms and legitimate interests, and developing a culture of human rights in the country.”

It is also important to continue education and training in the field of human rights in the family, pre-school and school educational institutions, universities, as well as in professional institutions such as courts and law enforcement agencies, civil society institutions and the media.

The badge “For the Protection of Human Rights,” established on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, occupies a special place in encouraging selfless compatriots and foreign partners who support responsible work in the field of human rights.

As announced at the award ceremony, in 2023, nominations for the award were considered in 5 categories.

These include: “Practical work in the field of human rights protection”, “Activities in non-governmental organizations in the field of human rights protection”, “Promotion of human rights”, “Education and scientific research in the field of human rights”.

In addition, 16 candidates were found worthy of being awarded a badge for their contribution to the “Development of international cooperation in the field of human rights.”

Based on the results, the badge “For the Protection of Human Rights” was awarded to:

I. For practical work in the field of human rights protection:

Burkhanov Kutbiddin Nukritdinovich – Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan;

Shirinov Jahongir Jabborovich - Chairman of the Committee on Combating Corruption and Issues of the Judicial System of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan;

Shlimbetov Jenisbay Gurbanbaevich – regional representative of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the Republic of Karakalpakstan;

Niyazmetova Gulrukh Kuralovna – Deputy Head of the State Labor Inspectorate of the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Employment of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

II. For the activities of non-governmental organizations in the field of human rights protection:

national movement "Yuksalish";

NGO “Madad”;

Notary Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

III. For activities to promote human rights:

Editorial office of the newspaper "Tong Yulduzi";

Editorial staff of the KUN.Uz website;

Remco Redding (Netherlands) is a researcher, writer and journalist.

IV. For activities in education and research in the field of human rights:

Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies of the Republic of Uzbekistan;

Okyulov Omonboy – chief researcher at the Institute of State and Law of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Law, Professor;

Bakaeva Farida Khadjmuratovna – former head of the department of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, candidate of legal sciences.

V. For contribution to the development of international cooperation in the field of human rights:

Martin Chungong – Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union;

Gianni Magazenny – former head of the UPR department of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, member of the Board of the UPR-Info organization;

Tuzmukhamedov Bakhtiyor Raisovich – Deputy Chairman of the UN Committee against Torture, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Professor.

During the ceremony, the awardees were solemnly presented with the badge “For the Protection of Human Rights” by the director of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, Akmal Saidov.

Representatives of international and national organizations, scientific and educational institutions, civil society institutions, speaking on behalf of the laureates, expressed gratitude and noted that Uzbekistan strictly and conscientiously complies with its obligations set out in international documents in the field of human rights.
