Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 24 November 2023, an exhibition “Silk and the Silk Road. From Hangzhou to Samarkand” opens at the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve. The exhibition is dedicated to the cultural and historical heritage of Uzbekistan and China.

In total, the exhibition will feature 86 exhibits from the Samarkand Archaeological Institute named after Y. Gulyamov, the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve and the Chinese National Silk Museum in Hangzhou.

Among them are unique terracotta figurines from the Afrosiab settlement, ceramic products, glass and bronze objects discovered during excavations of the Munchaktepa village in Tashkent region.

The China National Silk Museum is located next to Hangzhou West Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The exhibition area of the museum is the largest among silk museums in the world - about 1200 square meters.

In September–November 2023, the China National Silk Museum organized the exhibition “Colorful Asia: Asian Costume Exhibition” in Hangzhou in conjunction with the 19th Asian Games. With the support of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan, the exhibition in Hangzhou presented 20 of the best examples of traditional art of Uzbekistan - gold-embroidered robes, chapans, suzanis and jewelry items.

The Chinese National Silk Museum will present 26 exhibits at the Samarkand exhibition. Visitors will have the opportunity to see silk samples, silk tapestry loom, costumes, and silk products from the Qing Dynasty.

The exhibition is open until 15 September 2024. 

The Samarkand State Museum-Reserve includes 16 historical places and objects. The museum’s collections contain more than 211,000 exhibits. Exhibition “Silk and the Silk Road. From Hangzhou to Samarkand" takes place in the museum "The Great Silk Road: the Golden Heritage of Uzbekistan and China", which is part of the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve.
