QIWI announced its withdrawal from the Uzbekistan market

QIWI announced its withdrawal from the Uzbekistan market

14/11/2023 20:32

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- QIWI payment service announced its withdrawal from the Uzbekistan market. This was reported on the company’s website.

The message notes that from 18 December, the QIWI Uzbekistan application will stop working. The company recommended that its users withdraw their funds to bank cards before 18 December.

At the same time, QIWI notes that from 16 November, the service will begin charging a commission of 75 thousand soums daily for storing money on the balance sheet, since the company cannot hold clients’ money.

According to QIWI, after 18 December, clients can withdraw funds from their wallet only upon application. The company emphasized that transferring funds from a local wallet to a foreign one is impossible.

The QIWI payment service notes that this decision was made due to restrictions on international transfers and payments introduced by the Central Bank of Uzbekistan for payment services in September.

“Currently, the wallet in Uzbekistan has quite limited functionality - only payments for local services and transfers to cards of local banks are available. At the same time, almost 90% of users used our wallet specifically to pay for foreign services and international transfers. These options are currently unavailable due to restrictions imposed by the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan on all payment systems,” the QIWI statement notes.
