Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As of September 1, 2023, the number of commercial enterprises operating in the retail sector reached 94 538 units, of which the number of operating large enterprises amounted to 312 units, and small enterprises and microfirms – 94 226. In particular, retail trade indicators include data collected on the basis of observations of organized and unorganized trade among individuals engaged in trade activities without the formation of a legal entity.
Retail trade turnover at the end of January-August 2023 reached 184 274.2 billion soums and increased, compared to the same period in 2022, by 107.2%, also the turnover of large enterprises amounted to 32,919.6 billion soums (growth rate – 116.1%), and small businesses and private entrepreneurship – 151 354.6 billion soums (growth rate – 105.4%), including unorganized trade amounted to 18 948.5 billion soums (growth rate – 108.1%).
Compared to January-August 2022, significant growth rates during the period under review were noted in the city of Tashkent (111.2%), Fergana (106.8%) and Navoi (106.7%) regions, in which there was an increase in the growth rate of retail trade.
Over the past five years (2019 – 2023), high growth rates of retail trade turnover were noted in 2022 and this figure amounted to 111.3%. The lowest growth was recorded in 2020 with a growth rate of 97.8%.
In January-August 2023, the growth rate of retail turnover amounted to 107.2%.
In the structure of retail trade turnover, a significant share is noted in the city of Tashkent, which amounts to 26.1%, or 48 055.6 billion soums. The smallest share was recorded at 1.6%, or 2 974.7 billion soums, which was observed in Syrdarya region.
Compared to the corresponding period in 2022, during the period under review, an increase in growth rates in retail trade was noted in all regions.
Retail trade turnover of small businesses and private entrepreneurship, according to statistical calculations, in January-August 2023 amounted to 151 354.6 billion soums and, compared to the same period in 2022, increased by 5.4%. The share of this sector in the republic in retail trade turnover reached 82.1%.
In the structure of retail trade turnover, the volume of trade turnover of large enterprises increased by 16.1% and reached 32 919.6 billion soums, which is 17.9% of its total volume.
The share of small business and private entrepreneurship, compared with other regions, was greatest in Surkhandarya (97.0%), Kashkadarya (95.2%) regions and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (96.2%). In the structure of retail trade turnover, the share of turnover of large enterprises amounted to 17.9% of total sales, their main share was observed in the city of Tashkent (43.4%), Samarkand (19.0%), Tashkent (14.9%) and Fergana (8.4%) regions.
Retail trade turnover per capita in the republic for January-August 2023 averaged 5 090.6 thousand soums (compared to the same period in 2022, it increased by 104.9%). The highest volume, compared to other regions, was recorded in the city of Tashkent (16 136.9 thousand soums), Navoi (6 462.1 thousand soums) and Tashkent (5 555.5 thousand soums) regions.
Unorganized trade turnover is also taken into account when compiling domestic trade indicators. This includes the volume of sales made by individuals in the dehkan (food) market, as well as in the markets for livestock, poultry and other animals. Unorganized trade includes agricultural products grown by individuals (farmers) on their own farms.
Dehkan (food) market is a property complex operating on a permanent or temporary basis in places intended to create the necessary conditions for the retail purchase and sale of a wide range of food agricultural products and their processed products using shopping arcades, retail locations and stationary retail outlets (including number of shopping pavilions).
According to preliminary data from a survey of individuals, the turnover of unorganized trade in January-August 2023 amounted to 18 948.5 billion soums and, compared to the same period in 2022, it increased by 108.1%. Including trade turnover in dehkan markets amounted to 9 188.7 billion soums (an increase of 115.9%), trade turnover in livestock markets was recorded at 9 759.8 billion soums (a decrease of 101.5%).
In January-August 2023, a survey of individuals engaged in the sale of agricultural products (grown on private plots) was conducted in all regions of the republic, as a result of which the turnover of this type of trade amounted to 9 188.7 billion soums. High sales of fresh agricultural goods reached 4 152.9 billion soums.
In January-August 2023, a survey of individuals involved in the sale of poultry and livestock (kept on private farms) was conducted in all regions of the republic, as a result of which the turnover of this type of trade amounted to 9 759.8 billion soums. Sales of livestock of different ages reached 7 823.4 billion soums, sheep and goats – 1 608.2 billion soums, horses – 283.6 billion soums, birds – 44.5 billion soums.
As of September 1, 2023, the number of commercial enterprises operating in the public catering sector amounted to 24 566 units, of which the number of large operating enterprises was 75 units, and the number of small enterprises and micro-firms reached 24 491.
In January-August 2023, the turnover of public catering enterprises amounted to 8 776.0 billion soums and increased, compared to the same period in 2022, by 109.3%, of which 72.5% of trade turnover accounted for small businesses.
The highest volume, compared to other regions, was recorded in the city of Tashkent (17 135.9 billion soums), Khorezm (3 947.1 billion soums) and Jizzakh (3 837.0 billion soums) regions.
The turnover of wholesale and retail trade in motor vehicles and their accessories (except for the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles) for January-August 2023 amounted to 46 176.3 billion soums and increased, compared to the same period in 2022, by 18.9 %, Also, the turnover of large enterprises amounted to 20,362.9 billion soums (growth rate – 109.7%), and small businesses and private entrepreneurship – 25 813.4 billion soums (growth rate – 127.3%).
According to preliminary data, in January-August 2023, the volume of wholesale trade turnover reached 169 686.6 billion soums and, compared to the same period in 2022, increased by 11.2%.
The turnover of wholesale trade of small businesses, according to statistical calculations, amounted to 121 310.9 billion soums and, compared to the corresponding period in 2022, increased by 107.0%. The share of this sector in the wholesale trade turnover in the republic was 71.5%.
In January-August 2023, the highest growth rates of wholesale turnover of large enterprises, compared with the same period in 2022, were observed in Syrdarya (2.4 times), Samarkand (1.8 times) and Fergana (1.7 times) regions.
As of September 1, 2023, the number of commercial enterprises operating in the field of wholesale trade amounted to 46 801 units, of which the number of large operating enterprises was 330, small enterprises and micro-firms – 46 471.
