Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Uzbek car market continues to grow steadily despite the fact that its growth rate has slowed down slightly. Over the month, sales increased by 2.4%, and the most significant growth was noted in the aftermarket segment of electric vehicles.
The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) conducts a monthly analysis of the situation in the automobile market of Uzbekistan.
At the end of August, vehicle sales increased by 2.4% to 148 thousand. At the same time, compared to August last year, sales growth was 24%.
The total number of passenger cars sold in August exceeded 135 thousand, an increase of 2.3% over the month.
Growth was noted in Khorezm - by 17%, Jizzakh - 12% and Syrdarya regions - 11%.
In general, passenger car sales increased by 24% compared to August last year.
The situation in the primary car market
In August, 37.7 thousand new passenger cars were sold. Despite a noticeable slowdown in sales, growth amounted to 9%, while a month earlier – 19%.
Compared to August last year, the primary market for passenger cars showed an increase of more than 2 times.
In the segment of new domestically produced passenger cars, sales amounted to 32.6 thousand cars, compared to 29.6 thousand in July.
Foreign passenger car market
In August, 5.4 thousand new foreign-made passenger cars were sold, which is 8.7% higher than the same figure in July of this year.
The situation in the secondary car market
Sales of passenger cars in the secondary market did not decline significantly. During the month, 97.5 thousand passenger cars were sold, which is 0.1% less than the month before. At the same time, compared to August last year, there was an increase of 7%.
The decline in sales in the secondary car market is due to the resumption of contracts by UzAuto Motors for Cobalt, Lacetti, Labo and Damas (starting from August of this year, about 51 thousand cars were contracted, which corresponds to the company’s production plans until the end of 2023).
Electric vehicle market
In August, sales of passenger electric vehicles exceeded 3.7 thousand, which is 38% more than in July.
The largest number of electric vehicles sold was noted in the city of Tashkent - 2.8 thousand, Tashkent - 250 units. and Fergana regions - 139 units.
Compared to the same period last year, sales of electric vehicles increased more than 5 times.
The primary market for electric vehicles amounted to 3.2 thousand, with an increase of 35% compared to last month. At the same time, sales increased 7.3 times compared to the same period last year.
The most noticeable growth was shown by the aftermarket segment of electric cars. Sales for the month increased by 56% and amounted to 497 units, compared to August 2022 - an increase of 89%.
