Central Asian diplomats undergoing training on preventive diplomacy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A five-day training on preventive diplomacy organized by the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) in cooperation with the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) started in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on 3 November 2009. Diplomats from all five Central Asian states are taking part in this event.

The training on preventive diplomacy is conducted by international experts and is aimed at strengthening the knowledge and skills of junior diplomats in conflict analysis and interest-based negotiation.

The importance of understanding root causes of conflict and identifying solutions that meet the major concerns of the parties in the conflict will be addressed. The program will examine efforts in preventive diplomacy and confidence-building. The structure of the training includes theory, negotiation practice, case studies and presentations.

The United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia (UNRCCA) was established in December 2007 at the initiative of the five Central Asian countries to assist and support the governments of Central Asian states in building their conflict prevention capacities through enhanced dialogue, confidence building measures and establishing genuine partnership in order to respond to existing threats and emerging challenges in the Central Asian region.
