Publication about new manuscripts about Uzbekistan in foreign countries

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Cultural Heritage Agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan collects information on artifacts related to the history and culture of Uzbekistan, stored in museums, foundations, private foundations, scientific and cultural institutions around the world. 

Currently, scientific research is also being carried out on the implementation of a scientific description of the collected data on artifacts, their inclusion in the Electronic Register and the publication of a register of manuscripts.

To date, more than 9,000 household items, archaeological finds, various decorations, manuscripts, documents, textiles (palak, tun, atlas, bekasam and others), musical instruments related to the history and culture of Uzbekistan, stored in 40 countries of the world, have been collected.

This invaluable heritage of our ancestors made a great contribution to the development of mankind and Islamic civilization. Since manuscripts make up 44% of this wealth, special attention is paid to their study and promotion.

In 2022, a scientific description of 330 cultural objects was identified and carried out - 173 manuscripts, 157 museum exhibits in the direction of identifying, studying and delivering copies of manuscripts related to the history and culture of our country, stored in foreign countries.

According to the preliminary results of the “Register of Manuscripts Abroad About Uzbekistan. Volume 1” (The Register of Manuscripts Located overseas concerning Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage. Volume 1. / Register of foreign manuscripts related to Uzbekistan. Volume 1. // Executive editor R. Bahadirov - Tashkent, 2020.- 496 pages) monographic study published with a circulation of 1000 copies in Uzbek, English and Russian and presented to scientific and cultural institutions and organizations of our republic and about 40 countries of the world. To date, the 2nd and 3rd volumes of this Register and a scientific facsimile of the unique manuscript "Badoe al-Bidai" by Alisher Navoi, which is stored in Turkey, have been prepared for publication.

Another scientific success in 2022 was the publication, under the direct initiative and guidance of the Agency’s employee, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Roik Bakhadyrov, of the first edition of “Khabibullaev A. Ancestral Legacy: Manuscripts in the USA”, containing information regarding manuscripts belonging to our scientists, stored in libraries US higher education institutions.

The publication contains data obtained as a result of studying the collections of the following 13 libraries, containing scientific descriptions of 556 handwritten copies of 123 works written by 31 scientists.

At the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) - 51;

The Library of Congress (Washington, DC) - 27;

At Columbia University - 16;

At the University of Pennsylvania - 15;

At Harvard University (Cambridge) - 13;

At the National Library of Medicine (Washington, DC) - 11;

Presented are data from 1 manuscript from Haverford College, University of Utah, Stanford University, Walters Art Museum (Baltimore), and the University of Iowa Library.

The publication describes the great poets of their time, such as Ahmad Ferghani, Imam al-Bukhari, Isa at-Tirmizi, Abu Nasr Al-Farabi, Abu Lays as-Samarkandi, Abu Rayhan Al-Beruni, Abu Ali Ibn Sina, Mahmud al-Zamakhshari , Burkhaniddin Marginoni, Sauddin At-Taftazani, Alisher Navoi, Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur and many others.
