Uzbek police kill three drug smugglers on Afghan border - TV

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbek National Security Service officers have killed an armed group of three people attempting to smuggle drugs into Surkhandarya region, which borders with Afghanistan, Uzbek TV’s flagship Akhborot news programme reported on 20 October.
"During the arrest operation, the criminal group of three people put up armed resistance, which led to a clash. All members of the group died from serious wounds sustained as a result of the clash," the report said.
The report also said that the security officers seized over 35 kg of opium from the drug traffickers, who were attempting to smuggle the drug from Afghanistan into Uzbekistan.
"A forensic examination established that the drug couriers had attempted to smuggle more than 35 kg of opium," the report added.
