Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- New opportunities in the field of hematology were developed by the National Chamber of Innovative Healthcare of Uzbekistan during a July working trip to the Czech Republic.
During the visit to the Prague Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (ÚHKT), in particular, the Czech experience in creating modern Biobanking was considered. It stores biological samples created during the study of local patients, and also has the ability to connect to the global network of biobanks, which significantly increases the efficiency of patient research and scientific work necessary for the treatment of cancer and blood diseases.
The specialists of the National Chamber discussed with their Czech colleagues the possibilities of partnership to create a modern level biobank system in Uzbekistan.
The development of such areas as molecular genetic diagnostics, next-generation sequencing, and biological medicines were also considered.
“In Uzbekistan, the development of practical assistance in the field of hematology, as well as scientific research in this direction, including with the involvement of the best world experience, has received serious support and close attention in recent years. In May 2021, a resolution of the President of the country “On further improvement of the system for providing hematological and oncological services to the population” was adopted, said Rovshan Izamov, Chairman of the National Chamber, during a meeting in the Czech Republic.
It was noted that on 17 June 2022, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Center for Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Clinical Immunology, which was created in an updated form on his behalf. Now special conditions have been created here for both sick children and parents. In June, 101 children were treated at the Center, while patients were served by 130 doctors, including 38 researchers, hundreds of nurses. This year, the Center has additionally installed 14 types of equipment, the level of supply of medicines has significantly increased, 91 types of oncohematological preparations are provided free of charge at the expense of the state.
The center, on the instructions of the head of state, will expand, so by the end of the year another 67 types of equipment will be delivered, treatment and diagnostic standards have been updated here. Leading foreign consultants are involved in the activities of the Center.
It is the best international experience and partnerships between scientists from Uzbekistan and other countries that can create a breakthrough in the level of treatment. So, at the Prague Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, they are studying a method for treating blood cancers with patients’ own cells. As Czech scientists reported in the media last October, a new research pavilion has been opened for this purpose, where they research and produce cells that can fight tumors. They are prepared specifically for a particular patient, and they are served in the form of an infusion. Studies have shown that the new method can be an effective treatment for those types of malignant tumors that have a specific antigen on the surface so that the modified cells recognize it. Rescue cells are prepared for specific patients. It takes about a month to produce antitumor cells adapted to a specific patient. This is personalized medicine.
It is planned that these studies in the future will also lead to the creation of so-called "universal cells", which can be given to the patient immediately.
Thus, the experience of the Czech Republic is valuable in that it has developed a mechanism for helping the patient, covering the entire process - from fundamental research and production to their application in the treatment of the patient.
As a result of the working trip, partnerships were established with the Prague Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in order to develop cooperation and practical application of Czech experience for the treatment of patients in Uzbekistan.
